For those of you visiting for the first time, I guess a bit of background is in order, so here are my cliff notes. I am a magician, and throughout the ‘80’s I was based in Orlando performing close up magic, sleight of hand and stage productions for the convention and corporate market. In 1989 Orlando was awarded an NBA Team that they called the Orlando Magic, and I was awarded the position of the Official Magician of the Orlando Magic. Traditional magic wouldn’t quite fit the bill so we started a company named The Sports Magic Team, an interactive entertainment crew to interact with the fans during any timeouts, halftimes or breaks in the action. The concept caught on from basketball, baseball, hockey, concerts, drag racing and just about every major sporting event. Nowadays you can’t go to a major event without a crew running through the stands with backpack contraptions and games in the stands, launching T shirts during time outs and during basketball games all of the balloons behind the backboards. We started all of that in Orlando and now it has become a staple. In 1991 during the All Star Game in Orlando, I met Jimmy Buffet and started touring with him providing all of the preshow mayhem, illusions and special effects. So from 1992 until I got off of the road I was at every Jimmy Buffett concert, either that or we were opening Margaritaville restaurants or at some sporting event around the world. One of my friends said to me “You’re touring with Jimmy Buffett, and you never been to Key West?” So I came down for a weekend visit, about 18 years ago.
What can I say – it’s been a long weekend!
